Benefits of Armchair Exercises
Our experienced carers have discovered that ‘armchair exercise’ is particularly popular with our residents (especially those with a fondness for their chairs!) to get in that all-important workout.
What are armchair exercises?
Armchair exercises are, quite simply, gentle exercises performed whilst sitting down that are designed to help improve mobility and even prevent falls. Seated exercises have been proven to help boost both the physical and mental wellbeing of elderly people within a matter of weeks, increasing body function, happiness and self-esteem. Here at Primrose Lodge Care Home we recognise the benefits exercise like this offers our residents and we encourage everyone to participate in our fun classes.
Staying healthy whilst sitting down
To perform these exercises, all you need is a good, solid chair that doesn’t have wheels or armrests that prevent movement and you should be able to place your feet flat on the floor with your knees bent at right angles. It is recommended you wear loose and comfy clothes and always keep water within reach. Our experienced care staff will guide you through a series of gentle exercises that will work your whole body, but don’t worry, they will tailor the exercises based on your ability.
As well as being a great way to remain active, our armchair classes are enjoyable sociable events and we all have a great deal of fun doing them. To complement these tutorials, our dedicated Activities Coordinator, who is always happy to hear suggestions from our residents, also organises activities such as weekly quizzes, bingo and trips to the coast.
