Dorset Care Home Activities
An apple a day may keep the doctor away but keeping the mind, body and soul active is a great recipe for longer living and happiness. We tailor a broad range of activities to achieve many objectives. The importance for some is maintaining strength, flexibility and finding balance; for others, it is stimulation, interaction and finding enjoyment in what they do.
“Laughter is good for the soul – it uplifts the mind, body and spirit…"
Primrose Lodge Weymouth has an Activities Coordinator that organises daily group sessions, events and entertainment. The staff also take part in organising cinema nights, music sessions and sing-a-longs.
Trips and days out are organised with staff and families, and residents benefit from a number of trips to the coast together with other tourist attractions in the area.
The home has areas of interest with reminiscence items displayed. This allows people to engage in conversation about life experiences which has proved to be very successful.
Our home is also equipped with multimedia technology to allow you to surf the net, email family and friends or even Skype for a virtual face to face chat.
Each week residents are provided with a list of activities and events on offer, these include:
- Day Trips Out

Not at all. We encourage your loved one to take part in a few activities a week to ensure they are socialising and not isolating themselves. However, we will never force anyone to join in an activity.
It is important to us that they choose which activities they join as this ensures they have as much control over their day-to-day life as possible.
We have at least one activity arranged per day, and work on a weekly activities calender. This gives our residents a chance to see what is coming up and plan their weeks accordingly.
By working on a weekly basis, we are also able to be more flexible and reactive to feedback from our residents.
Absolutely! We love our residents giving feedback on the activities we run and encourage new ideas to be put forward.
We will try and accommodate them as much as possible, working new ideas into our activities plan to allow residents to keep up their hobbies and interests and share them with others.
Of course. Each of our activities will be adapted to allow each of our residents to participate.
So, no matter their physical or cognitive abilities, they can join in whichever activities they want and have a great time.
Definitely! We love it when family and friends join us for an activity and create more shared memories with loved ones and our residents.
We work with medical professionals to ensure our activities stimulate our residents both mentally and physically.
Included in our activities programme are a number of therapies, such as animal therapy, music therapy, gardening therapy and reminiscence therapy.
We also include activities that encourage gentle exercise, sometimes this will be through exercise specific activities such as chair Tai Chi, and others it will be as part of another activity, such as gardening.
There are many mental benefits to our activities. Each activity is designed to make residents think and use their brain. The aim is to keep cognitive abilities sharp and their brain active.
They also centre around socialising, to ensure your loved ones social needs are met and reduce their feelings of loneliness and isolation.
